Tom Evans Audio Design

"Tom who?"
I hear you ask! If you're not a UK audiophile, and even
if you are, if you don't delve behind some of the more
famous products, you could be forgiven for not having
heard of him. Tom Evans is an innovator in amplification and digital electronics, but like many similar folk, does not normally put his name on what he makes. But, he's had enough of hiding behind other brands. And Walrus (or rather Head Walruses Les and Pete) have known Tom for many, many years, and are proud to be one of the first outlets to stock his "own brand" product. |
| A brief history ... Tom's
first product was the Finestra preamplifier from 1986/87,
a partly perspex encased unit which never became widely
known, but sounded very good. |

Inside the Groove ... The
basic design builds on the Iso HR circuitry, but that's
where the similarity ends. One complete amplifier board
is used per channel sandwiched between two copper plated
shielding boards. The components used are the very latest
high specification devices in the usual Tom Evans
configurations, and the whole amplifier is fed from hand-built
discrete power supply regulators (Lithos), fed by
miniature mains transformers, one for each channel. Specifications... Input loading nominally 100R / 330pF, but can be
specified by user. Price: GBP 1900.00 Also available: Groove Plus: GBP 3800.00 MicroGroove: GBP 480.00 MicroGroove Plus: GBP 900.00 The Vibe (line level preamp): GBP 3000.00 Linear A (stereo power amp): GBP 4400.00 Linear B (mono power amps): GBP 8800.00/pair |
PS: the webmaster (Pete) would like to apologise for the design of this page, and the fact that anyone using less than 1024*768 resolution and/or less than full screen will have to keep scrolling horizontally in order to read it. I know other sites do this routinely, but we usually do a bit better than this. Sorry!
